David was born in 2008 into a family of musicians. His father Vladimir Sverdlov Ashkenazy is a pianist and composer, his mother Lyda Chen studied law and plays the viola.
David discovered the piano and played his first notes in the company of his dear grandmother, Professor Elena Ashkenazy.
At the age of five and a half he began lessons with Professor Serguei Milstein, with whom he studied for nine years.
David performed in public for the first time in 2016 at the Progetto Argerich in Lugano and played four-handed pieces with his other wonderful grandmother Martha Argerich.
Several times winner of the internal competition of the Geneva Conservatory, he received the first prize with distinction in the Final of the Swiss Musical Youth Competition 2019 edition, in the piano solo and duo categories.
He won First Prize with congratulations in the Karl Adler International Junior Competition in Stuttgart in the 2018 and 2019 editions and 2nd Prize in the “Genève Musicale” international competition in 2023.
David is invited to Japan in 2019 and performs solo at Beppu, Argerich Meeting Point. The same year he also performed in Hamburg, at the Leisz Saal Festival, where he was regularly invited.
Guest of the Coup de cœur festival in Chantilly in 2021, 2022 and 2023, his performances for four hands and two pianos are broadcast live on Mezzo TV.
In November 2022, David makes his orchestral debut and plays Beethoven’s 1st Concerto in the Great Hall of the Esplanade in Singapore.
The following year David Chen was invited to China and performed as a soloist and chamber music group in the National Theaters of Guangzhou and Nanjing.
David continues his studies at the Geneva Conservatory of Music with Professor Mladen Tcholitch, in the Musimax programme.
